Secure yourself online

5/2/2020

Every day we become more and more reliant on technology for our day-to-day tasks, whether this is using social media, accessing online banking or ordering your online shop. Hence, it is crucial to protect your online self from any potential threats that could infiltrate your online presence.
Complex Passwords
Passwords are a major part of every day life, these act as the first line of defence against cyber criminals. With them securing so much of your personal data and life, people still underestimate the need for a secure and complex password, even often opting to use the same ones across multiple sites. The dangers of this are that if this site is compromised and your password is stolen, all your other accounts are put at risk of being accessed.
Cyber-crime is a growing concern with our reliance on technology in modern life and therefore creating a secure and complex password that is unique to your other passwords is a huge step that you can take to keep yourself protected.

Password Managers
Obviously remembering these complex and unique passwords can be a challenge on its own. That is why we recommend Password Managers. These act by requiring you to remember one ‘master’ password that allows you to them access the rest of your passwords once entered. Your other passwords are encrypted and therefore cannot be access without this password.

Multi Factor Authentication
Another method of securing yourself is to setup Multi Factor Authentication (also known as 2 Factor Authentication). This acts as an additional layer of security as it only allows you to login if you are able to provide two different methods of authentication. The most common version of this is something you know (Password) and something you have (code from your mobile phone). Once you provide both of these, you are then able to login to your account. We would recommend that you set this up on any account that has it available.

At Ashgates IT, we ensure that this is setup for our users to ensure they are kept as secure as they can be. If you want to look at making yourself or your business secure online, please get in touch.
